E-Notary with Remote Notary, can be a bit confusing. They are not the same...
Involves documents that are notarized in electronic form, and the Notary and document signer sign with an electronic signature. But all other elements of a traditional, paper notarization apply to electronic notary, including the requirement for the signer to physically appear before the Notary in the state of Pennsylvania.
The effect of E-Notary is the same as a notary signing a sheet of paper. It allows for a smooth exchange of the document by email or another electronic source, and enables electronic filing. Simple. All that is necessary, is access to the Internet, which allows us to perform our notary service in a matter of minutes.
(RON) provides Notary Publics with the authority to acknowledge the signature or the act of an individual without that individual being physically present at the same location. Confusion can arise, from the fact that Remote Online Notarizations typically involve digital documents that are: signed and notarized electronically. However, the entire transaction is conducted online, rather than in person, which is now allowed in the state of Pennsylvania.
When using the Remote feature, each person involved in the transaction is currently required to have either FireFox or Google Chrome when using Windows, the latest Safari on latest Mac OS, Chrome on Android, and if using IOS such as IPad or IPhone it must be iOS 11 or higher with Safari version 11 or higher. This feature will not work without the correct browser respective to the device.
Each participant will be required to have their identity verified through a verification process using a third party provider to enable these services. There is a fee for each request made for verification that the participant is responsible for.
The notary must vet each signer, and if the signers do not answer all question with yes, they will not be able to pass the ID verification as the third party providers usually only have data on U.S. citizens only.
Only after you have successfully completed ID Verification, our system then connects you and us by videoconference (recorded) on our web-based audio/visual platform.
The Notary will process the documents, affix the Seal, and make a record of the signing with you on the audio/video connection.
Act 97 of 2020, effective October 29, 2020 made Remote Online Notarization (RON) a permanent part of Pennsylvania law.

The notary’s electronic seal is simply text that appears on an electronic document and that must include, at minimum, the notary’s name as it appears on his commission, the notary’s jurisdiction (i.e., the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania), the notary’s registration number, and the notary’s commission expiration date.

Technically speaking, an electronic signature is a symbol or process attached to or logically associated with an electronic document and executed or adopted by a person with the intent to sign the document. Other examples of common electronic signatures take the form of an “I accept” button on a web site agreement or a physical signature on an electronic signature pad, commonly used at retail stores when paying for products.
We use electronic documents everyday in business and personal affairs. The popular electronic document formats are PDF (portable document format) or Microsoft Word, but an electronic document can also take the form of any electronic data in computer-readable form, such as an email message, a web page or an electronic image.
